CreativeMornings Portland with Kate Bingaman Burt

CreativeMornings Portland with Kate Bingaman Burt.

CreativeMornings is a monthly breakfast lecture series for creative types.

Superstar designer and blogger Tina Roth Eisenberg organized the first CreativeMornings event in September 2009 in NYC. She wanted to create an accessible and inspiring morning event—sort of like a flexible mini-conference. Two years later, there are CreativeMornings lectures across the world, where designers, thinkers, and makers of all kinds get together to reflect on the creative process before starting their workdays.

All CreativeMornings events start at 9 AM, are free, and include a 20-minute lecture, discussion, and plenty of coffee. What better way to energize your creative practice and connect with your community?

Kate begins her lecture! She animated the entire thing with stop-motion drawings. Awesome!

Scout Books had the honor of being one of the sponsors for the first-ever CreativeMornings Portland last week, which was expertly organized by Tsilli Pines and featured a lecture with illustrator and educator extraordinaire, Kate Bingaman Burt.

The audience. So psyched to be there!

A crowd of 150 creatives met bright and early to hear Kate drop knowledge, jokes, and inspiration. She talked about her work and process, and how she uses rules and structure to keep herself moving and making.

We love Kate!

As a gift to attendees, Kate designed a fabulous commemorative Scout Book with her lively illustrations, made even punchier with Magenta ink. (She also handed out zines! Kate is the best.) We are so grateful to be a part of the start of a new tradition here in our great city.

Kate says: Find what you love. Work hard. Be obsessed. Scout Books make a great tool for writing down and working out all of your obsessions and big project ideas.

Thanks Kate, for an inspiring talk. We’re still buzzing.
