Koyama Press produces a dizzying array of colorful zines, art books, and comic books. Founded in 2007, the press is building a culture of creativity with their regular releases of artist-made products.

Annie Koyama, proprietor of Koyama Press, developed these Scout Book as gifts for retailers who carry her products. Since most of the people she works with are artists, pocket-sized sketchbooks seemed like a no-brianer.

Artist Jesse Jacobs created this version of the Kickass Annie logo
Artist Aaron Leighton created the logo that graces the cover, but he’s not the only one – Koyama Press has named their mark “Kickass Annie,” and many artists over the years have reinterpreted the little lady. Browse the entire collection of reinterpretations here, on Flickr.

Be sure to check out Koyama Press’s catalog of titles, including contributions by Scout Books friends Bwana Spoons, Tad Carpenter and Meg Hunt. Looking through those titles is enough to make you pull out your pocket notebook and get sketching!
