“Well I do declare, if there isn’t the dodo!”
“Eve’s Diary” finds the famously irascible Mark Twain in a lovingly comic register. Written shortly after the death of his wife, “Eve’s Diary” is a poignant look at the first woman’s charm, intelligence, and sensitivity as she explores the newly formed Garden of Eden, frolics with animals (including a lively Brontosaurus) and even learns to tolerate her sometimes boorish partner Adam. Elegantly illustrated by Meg Hunt.
Mark Twain (1835-1910) was a towering figure in 19th Century American literature. Born Samuel Clemens, Twain had a prolific and wide-reaching career as a famed writer and ever-present public figure. His novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is widely considered to be amongst the foundational texts of American literature, and Twain’s influence continues to this day: His Autobiography, published a century after his death, was an instant best-seller.
Meg Hunt (b. 1983) is an illustrator and maker of things. Growing up by the sea and living in the desert for a time, she now thrives in Portland, where the forest is never very far. Her colorful characters have been spotted in books, animation, magazines and products worldwide, for clients like Cartoon Network, Fantagraphics Books, Oxford University Press, the Washington Post, and WNYC.
