“You must not—you shall not behold this!”
In this dark tale of dread we see master prose stylist Edgar Allan Poe at the height of his powers. An unforgettable tale of American Gothic horror, “The Fall of the House of Usher” deftly melds poetry and prose into a terrifying whole. Tom Neely’s meticulous and creepy artwork blends seamlessly with Poe’s words to make this a perfect edition of a classic story.
Edgar Allan Poe (1809 – 1849) was a major figure in American letters. Best known as an acerbic literary critic and poet in his lifetime (“The Raven” published in 1845, was an instant success), Poe has had a lasting influence on literature since his untimely and mysterious death in 1849. He is widely regarded as having invented the detective genre with stories such as “The Murders of the Rue Morgue,” and his continuing influence on adventure, horror, and science fiction traditions is undeniable.
Tom Neely (b. 1975) is a painter, cartoonist and publisher living in Los Angeles. His art has been featured in galleries around the world, in magazines, literary journals, and on album covers and posters for bands like ISIS and Wolves in the Throne Room. His published comics include his debut graphic novel, the Ignatz-award winning The Blot, and the cult hit mini-comic Henry & Glenn Forever. He recently curated and published the anthology Bound & Gagged, and published his second graphic novel, The Wolf.
