“Don’t treat me like a girl,” she warned him, “I’m not like any girl you ever saw.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s tales of the cultural tumult of a generation defined the “Jazz Age.” In this early story, he paints a nuanced portrait of teen angst and romantic longing set against the backdrop of a once-quiet Southern town. Illustrator Vanessa Davis’ fluid and lively drawings work hand-in-hand with Fitzgerald’s gorgeous prose to bring the “The Jelly-Bean” to vibrant life.
F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) A member of the famed expatriate “Lost Generation” that included his friend and rival Ernest Hemingway, Fitzgerald was the author of psychologically complex novels such as The Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night, and a prolific short story writer. Fitzgerald’s literary reputation rose meteorically and fell precipitously in his own lifetime before he posthumously found a place as one of the preeminent authors of the 20th Century.
